This is something I have been thinking about for a while now, but eh... well, here we go...
Items that drop in Dark areas, if you have no light source or infra-vision I don't think you should be able to see what drops, and notification should be something like "you hear something fall".
Also you can see monsters that are dragged (or spawn) into a dark area without a light source or infra-vision (or am I in error here?).
PS. I still think a fire/lightning golem (and faery fire) should provide light in darkness.
PPS. I also think a sorcy/minstrel should have a light spell.
PPPS. If you cant see an item you shouldn't be able to /get itemname either. You should have to "search" with a chance of not finding, to find a random item that had dropped. Which would mean people would potentially drop items to make it harder. Wouldn't that make blind (and by extension: sight) a nice tactical choice!
/me hides.

Re: Dark Areas and Item Drops.
Probably not a bad idea IMO for general drops.
