1 Character
Re: 1 Character
I'm pretty firmly in the 1 Alt camp. In time the Spikes will come, but truthfully for now, at it's creation, this game is a lot of Timmy and Johnny and running multiple characters around doesn't foster a community

Re: 1 Character
I think 2 is fine, I was raping everyone with 3 because most people dont even run 3 or know how to do it well.

Re: 1 Character
If there is a tie or its too close to determine I'll start off with one. It's easier to go up on characters then down.

Thats exactly what I am hoping to avoid by limiting it to 1 character. New players dont stand a chance controlling alts! Most new players are busy learning the basics of the game (where to go, how to fight, how to level, etc) toss a whole other character in there and its just an overload and turnoff.
Most of you guys know the game inside and out so controlling alts isnt a big deal and I admit its a bit more fun/tactical but for this game to be a success we need more than just the 20-30 people from old rok. We need this game to be as approachable as possible and limiting to 1 character in my mind is the #1 thing we can do to ensure that.
Put yourself in a new players shoes and think about approachability, think about when you first started the game. I know I didnt use alts and im sure most of you didnt either until you needed to (either others were using them or areas were too hard etc...)
I really can see a huge influx of people to this game I would not be surprised if we passed old roks top numbers there is a huge market for this game and indie games like this are more visible than ever but we gotta take the right steps here.
I am sorry I am so passionate but I really think this is a make or break decision for the game.
Re: 1 Character
I think what this will boil down to is either a split player base wanting 1a and one wanting 2a. Good times.
Re: 1 Character
How can you say that it will make or break the success of this game when ROK ran perfectly fine allowing people to run more than one character? That statement is rather hyperbolic.
And are we really making core game decisions based on RP aspects? I know this is a MUD and in a lot of MUDs RP is an important aspect of the game. But I never got that in my years playing ROK. 10%, maybe, of the player base actively RPd. To the point where if you wanted to RP you'd likely have to join a specific guild. Also, people who want to RP end up finding others that want to RP. And those people can choose to only run one character. Having the option to run more if you aren't into RPing should be available.
Speaking of new players. Who's going to want to come in and level a cleric alone? The leveling that was done in ROK is going to have to be seriously revamped to make it even somewhat balanced in leveling between classes. You're always going to have classes that level faster than others but having a one character limit will expound that I think.
Lastly, if this pole is going to be used to make this decision the selections should be a) 1 alt and b) 2+ alts as those who voted for 3 in this pole should be grouped in with those that voted 2.

Re: 1 Character
I don't see how we can jump from having three characters to one, that's a pretty big change in game dynamics.

Alot of people miss that randy is looking at this from wanting to make it mobile aspect which 1a is great and leveling a cleric alone was easy considering how deathbane worked.
Plus everyone isn't wanting this to be exactly like old rok with 30 max players online we are wanting to introduce this to a younger generation of players.
If we can't get the mile aspect of it to work then by all means let's bump the alt limit to 2 or 3 but for thus game to really take off we need to keep it as simple as possible.

I know it's a bit hard to imagine but that's because the games content (areas, monsters, etc) was built around the idea of everyone having alts. Since we are starting fresh building the game from scratch it shouldn't be a problem this time around at all.

I'm missing what is complicated about running 2 or more characters if you choose to.
