Amount of Internet use

I'm just wonderin how much use would be used on average for one hour in bytes or megs the client uses from a user's side

Edit just need an average amount for months use so I can plan useage on satellite dish.

I've seen data usage on server side and with an average of about 20 people on and its minimal at best. I will run a test on my computer to see how much data I use.

i never used more than 1.2 gigs per month on nightmist, however, consistent wiki and browser will put you far over 2 gigs.

The wiki page is rather light though. Forums is a little harder though.

The game shouldn't be using much at all though, no. The game encrypts and compresses everything so it's like getting zipped data which is highly compressed.

I.E. If you take a 5 meg file TEXT file and zip it up, it becomes something around 10KB. This is how the server works as well. The client does the work of decompressing each line. Obviously it is at the expense of CPU, but everyones CPU now and days is rather fast. Obviously we aren't sending 5 MB of data at a time either, but yeah, optimization is great to have.

its not the wiki thats the problem its browsers in general, which reload constantly. google chrome for instance burns more data than playing a mud 100x over.

i was on a 5 gig data limit for a long time, browsers update nearly everyday. aswell as the video advertisements on every page. i even went to the extent of uninstalling my browers updater, only to be shocked when it still updates. i finally just used my router and blocked googles and bings patch file so it cant update through my internet connection at all.(usually after 10 minutes connected my browser will stop working where i receive a warning from my router(blocking the update) and after i reopen browser, it tends to not harass me til the next day i use it.(like my comp is cleared for the day lol))


anyway, just limit the browser use and make sure you close out browsers, and you shouldn't go over 2 gigs

Yeah that would do it. Youtube videos some of them can be between 50-100 megs just for a few minutes if they are HD.
