Log off notification in unsafe area

Postby Eld » Sat Feb 25, 2017 6:49 pm

I'm liking the delay in letting a character log off due to being in an unsafe area, it's a great fix for a long term problem.

However we now have an issue of people sending messages, thinking someone's received them and then logged off after.

People will still send messages in normal chat, guild chat, and pages to a person thinking they have received the message and it's just leading to confusion.

Can we add some sort of extra message into the mix? Something like the following:

Normal chat and guild chat:
Eld is disconnecting...
Eld has left the game.

Response to pages sent during this time:
Eld is disconnecting and cannot receive pages at this time.

I think this would remove any confusion and just be great, thanks :)

Also just discovered that if you get attacked whilst in the logging off counter your character will stay disconnectted but you'll have no idea why.
The timer won't change, and there won't be any messages other than you cant log on another character due to the other one still being logged on.

Is there any way we could get a notification that we're being attacked and given the option of logging back on? Would the character stay on indefinitely because they're being attacked?

I just think in general we need more transparency for the end user on what's happening with logging off etc.

If you look at the lower left hand corner of the character selection screen when you log off in an unsafe area, you will noticed the name of the character you logged off with a combat timer bar under it.

If you see that bar constantly being reset and refilling, chances are you are being attacked and should log back in.

Simple solution, don't log off in an unsafe area.

The bar doesn't refill when you get attacked, it just continues to empty as if there is nothing wrong.

And there's plenty of times you need to log off in unsafe areas due to the design of some of the areas

For reference someone was just talking about how they keep getting "ghosted" when they log off outside of town.

I don't think this mechanic is clear enough

it should be an ingame countdown with a pop-up window with a cancel option.

;Bob is going offline (for clan chat)

You are going offline in an unsafe area. You may press "cancel" at anytime. countdown timer.

waiting offline is a weird concept imo. especially if you aren't intending to log on an alt.

I do think that idea is hugely preferable, but sometimes people need to leave quickly, so maybe tack on an exit anyway button.

You can already login the character that has a combat timer, (try it out noob).

You're right though I did forget to update the timer when you are attacked. The timer was meant to change/update but I had forgotten about that, that might be a problem I need to think about since the actual slot isn't tied to the old character anymore except with a check via login. I'll have to think about it.

I know you can log it back in, but if you're leaving for the night, you'd have no reason to try and log back in.

I really like the idea above about keeping the client window open so you see what's happening as you're logging off, but you have the option to exit anyway

Yeah, eventually I'll see about it. I am not contesting the window idea at all, it would work fine. I'd also remove the timer from the character creation, since it doens't really work anyways and probably won't, specially if you have another client open. It's a bit useless. Might as well just have a window where it still knows the connection have the timer on that, and simply a message stating you are on another char/logging off and the character in qusetion and it solves both issues. Don't have to cross reference the old slot etc or worry about inconsistency of having several windows open.
