One suggestion:
Make the crystal sellable (low gold obviously). I found stacks of them laying around and littering the fair city of Canopener.
I suppose there is always the trash room... does the trash room give money for dumped stuff yet (if not, or even if, it hardly seems worth running there)?
At least if they are sellable you will be visiting a shop anyway.
