Helper System

The helper system is added.

Newbies can ask questions with /newbie 'question here'. They can opt-out of the newbie system by typing /unsetnewbie. There is no removal otherwise, it effects the account as well. You cannot rejoin the newbie system right now unless a staffer adds you again. We'll see if we keep it this way.

To become a helper, you simply type /helper ... What this does is if someone asks a question you can reply via a page to them. The /newbie command sends a MESSAGE to online helpers only.


Originally I had it paging everyone in newbie/helper, and helpers could reply there, but then I found out it's pretty much a global chat and it was abused the first 5 minutes it was in. So this is the alternative to it. Should work fine though.

I dunno this is a fine idea but sooo tempting to troll people. It will clearly need moderation to work, or just let trusted staff be on it.

Yeah, I would advise having an actual helper group that are the only ones who can flag themselves, or the ability to ban people from flagging themselves if they prove to be abusive of the system. I can see it being used to troll new players once we're actually getting new players otherwise.

I'd ban you, case closed 8) If people think that abusing new players is the way to go then I think they can probably go find another game to play. 8) I'd prefer to keep it open for now and see how it goes. The occasional ban or two is just fine by me.

Staffers can modify the newbie or helper roles too on players. (Or will, that is, needs some adjusting). They can ban people from using the helper command as well if it's a light warning. But if there's just pure grief I won't give warnings out for being a tard.

Yes I mean as a helper. But yeah as long as you're fine moderating it it's great.
