FUTURE Temples Idea

Postby Cerebrus » Sat Oct 08, 2016 4:01 am

DISCLAIMER - THIS IS NOT NEEDED RIGHT AWAY. I'M POSTING IT SO I DON'T FORGET IT AND YOU CAN CHEW ON IT FOR AWHILE AND ADD IT IF/WHEN YOU DECIDE ON IT. I KNOW THERE ARE OTHER PRESSING MATTERS TO TAKE CARE OF FIRST. :D

So awhile back Deadroth made a suggestion about divs and temples....

daedroth wrote:right need to be quick, dentist soon

rework divinity, never did like the + vs that div, - vs that one

why not give them a beginning bonus

fire = +to damage
earth = + to armour
lightning = + to stamina regen
ice = + to mana regen
night = + to dodge

or some such

aight, time to be possibly mutilated, take care folks

and I responded with...

Cerebrus wrote:What if you had to level your divinity by donating gold to your temple? Each time you level it you gain a point that you can apply to a certain bonus? Perhaps all divinities have all the same bonus' you listed but you choose which one you want a point in?

Make it a simple 5 level thing
10,000g - Lvl1
50,000g - Lvl2
100,000 - Lvl3
250,000 - Lvl4
500,000 - Lvl5

You recieve 1 point per level. You can choose to dump them all into one bonus or put 1pt in each bonus and spread it out or you could make it so which ever bonus you put your first point into is the bonus you're stuck with and if you want to change it, it would cost 750k and the 5pts would be refunded to be redistributed where you see fit

Well I got to thinking more about this tonight and I think we could make it simpler and still keep it cool. It would make temples/div's more useful, interesting and a gold sink while not breaking the game. I think it would give it a more realistic feeling. Here are my thoughts....

You would be able to level up your divinity with a max of 5 levels as stated before by donating gold, but instead of the bonus' listed before we could go with something more realistic and simple. Each time you level up your divinity, the protection you receive from your god against the opposing divinity goes up. (Example If you're night div then your protection against fire div would increase each time you leveled up your divinity by donating.) If you think of this on the grand scale, people wouldn't reach Level 5 until well after they hit lvl 25. So it would be an end game bonus more than anything and it's not a huge advantage over anything. Just an increase in protection from your god against the opposing god of your divinity. The % can be adjusted of course. I just used these numbers as an example. You could go with 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% and 5%. Same with gold amounts, can be lowered or raised, these are just examples.

Dontation Amounts and Protection Increase:
Level 1 = 10,000g (protection increases 5%)
Level 2 = 25,000g (protection increases to 10%)
Level 3 = 50,000g (protection increases to 15%)
Level 4 = 100,000g (protection increases to 20%)
Level 5 = 250,000g (protection increases to 25%)

*Note:That doesn't mean 10% gets added to that first 5%, it means each level you gain 5% increase

Seems pretty good. I'd maybe like to see increments of 3's though. Price seems good.
Dontation Amounts and Protection Increase:
Level 1 = 10,000g (protection increases 3%) (Also, is this one necessary? Shouldn't you already start at lvl 1?)
Level 2 = 25,000g (protection increases to 6%)
Level 3 = 50,000g (protection increases to 9%)
Level 4 = 100,000g (protection increases to 12%)
Level 5 = 250,000g (protection increases to 15%)

-15% damage at the highest tier would be pretty good. I must also say that I agree I like the idea of beign able to further customize your character by adding the different ability modifiers for each Divinity as well.
So nothing huge, but something simple like the first bit of your post, with fire getting +dmg, earth +armor and so on. I love customization and think it helps with replayability and uniqueness for each of our characters, as it creates a further distinction between us.
But I also like the idea of a Character Roller too...

A more simple way to keep it in line would be to remove 5% on damage and negation already existing in game, then make it 1-5% boosts. This means you'd start with 10% and then it can increase to 15%.

Or remove 10% and do 2-10%. You'd start with only 5% then for your divinity.

Any higher then 15% to me is problematic though in terms of balance. Hense why we'd remove some from the existing divinities. Not sure how well of an idea this can work out to be though.
