Fair enough. How about we (you) make a global chat, were all people could chat at the same time? like guild chat. Except everyone was on it, and that would be the first thing noobs saw

Yea would also like to do something about the tutorial for area as well. While it accomplishes teaching the player what they need to know it also kind of alienates them from players like you said.

It's also a lot of instructions all at once and a little overwhelming. The first 15mins of a game is critical make or break. I think we should try getting players into the action soon and maybe teach players as things come up. For example you walk into combat and it tells you the basics of how to attakc and how things work. You walk into a shop and the basics are explained maybe a pop up tool tip type thing.

Anyways just some ideas but you are right interaction is the very key to a game like this and we are starting people out isolated for the first 15-30mins. Gotta do something about that

I agree about that though. I like the tutorial but I think it is a bit long and people can feel isolated. I'm not sure about GC because it can be abused, but maybe it's okay until we have a larger population. I'm wondering how people would feel about that. Maybe new players can start off in a new member guild and we have a few helpers who can be there too or just to plan chat with them/etc.

Having a new player guild would be an interesting concept. Not a lot of people will be willing to leave their guilds and join a new one just to help new players though, so it would be pretty empty most of the time, leading to the exact same problem.

Maybe need to simplify the training area, only have a couple small quests and then I'll make some sort of popup tutorial thing that shows players how it works. I know it's very RP like right now and that's cool, but 15-30 minutes is a long time to be isolated.

A little idea, I am neutral too. It is more a brainstorming thing so it is not cohesive, and I am not suggesting their good ideas. Also I have no idea how awkward they would be to implement.

Newbie Guild (already mentioned in an above comment):
Have all new players/alts auto-joined to the "Newbie Guild" until they are # level (8th or the new non pk level 15th). Maybe just for their first character.
After that (or before?) they can leave and go about their business. There could be volunteers in this clan or not.
Maybe have it voluntary when a character is made: "do you wish to join the Beginner clan?"
Newbie guild could have "help bots" as clan members.

Game announcement that a new player has joined the game:
Maybe... eh less keen on this, but global message "new character created [insert name here]". Maybe have that for only the first character created on an account also.
Could even restrict this to a auto-generated page (maybe a better idea than the global message one, maybe even a tele) linked to "volunteer" accounts so that they can help new players. So that a volunteer will be informed of a new player logging on and could then choose whether they want to help or not. As in people will choose to make their account a volunteer account (new option in the login screen?). Off course there should be a way of renouncing your volunteer status.
Sometimes I like to help new players, sometime I just want to zone out levelling (which usually means movie watching/book reading or some such).
Could make this an option as well for first newly created character: "Do you wish for people to know you are new to the game?".
Could be put into bios in a certain way.

Youtube link tutorial:

This could be shown like an announcement. This would require someone to make it, maybe just showing the academy quests and the Seamore quests until 8th level. Maybe show a little bit off communication (pages/guild chat). I am not volunteering for this! No one would understand me speaking and I have no idea how to go about making a youtube video anyway.

Eh... cant think of anything else right now.

Like Evan said throwing people in a newbie clan might have the same problem while we are getting new players multiple times a day it's not likely they will be on at the same time. Also most vets are prob not going to leave current guild and if they do it would be an alt sitting Afk. Much better off to get them in a real guild where they see people leveling bossing and pking type thing.

I do like the world announcement thing maybe for first character or two created in account. I'd like to see a global chat too maybe limit to messages per character so it's not spammed?

YouTube thing is an ok idea kind of takes them outta the game I feel like if done well we could shape up the tutorial zone to be more compact and action oriented. Like Chris said it's well done but it's a bit much for a first time player. I think I'll start soon on either compacting it a bit or just building a new branch so people still have a choice of going the RP route.

Would it be possible to have a Global Chat that would automatically "not" show me the messages of people that I /ignore?

So if, for example, LAteralus spammed useless stuff in global chat, i would ignore him, thus being unable to read what he wrote, but still be able to interact normally with everyone else.

This would help with abuse, without requiring too much direct monitoring.

I'll see about a global help channel in the near future.

Basic system I am working on to explain things as you go rather than all at once. Can be done on first entry etc. Isn't complete yet. Just an example. Ignore the wording, also exampled.

Edit: It cutoff on the 'click the inventory button' link, cause video crop.

Look decent. Only had a little look without sound since I am at work.
Will this be implemented as optional, a click here for tutorial thing? Also it would be good if it was on/off'able. This would allow a person to replay it if they missed something.

Pretty much either keep it on and dismiss when needed, reset the tut values, or simply set it to complete ignore yeah.
