Physical damage (Monk)
Hello all. I am an old RoK player and found this little gem. So I decided to make a Monk. It was the first class I had back in RoK. Well I got to hitting things and was all like "Yea this seems about right". Up until I got to the next town over and things were taking extremely long to kill. I see they sell items that have 1 extra damage. Is that even worth it? Should I go somewhere to farm and items or something? I see there are quests but they seem to just give gold and exp so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated, except the giving of items. I am not here to try and get anything for free. I just need some suggestions.
Re: Physical damage (Monk)
Every point helps
Most quests are just gold rewards.
The last quests in the Lumber Mill (from shop store guy and the ancient treant) do give items, but nothing for a monk (a heavy helm and a bow).
In the same area is a beastie called Treant Elder (minor boss - hourly'ish spawn, end quest from the store guy is to kill him)- he sometimes drops an elder staff - lvl 8 staff weapon (1 pt better than the lvl 8 shop bought).
There is also the Wicked staff (lvl8) that the troll boss sometimes drops - you will know who I am talking about if you have done the quests from the Seamore city guard, it is better than long staff, worse than edler staff
To the south of the lumber mill, where you see kageti crows etc there are two monsters in there Luna and Mendel, Luna drops ivory chuuks lvl 15 monk weapon and Mendel drops light armour (lvl20 monk can wear). They are hourly'ish spawn bosses as well, but might be icky to solo before lvl 20 or so. There are quests in there too (from the shop guy in there) that lead to an item reward - but I dont think there is anything for a monk, but the last one is to kill luna and mendel anyway...
You remembered to dual wield aye? I forgot when I first played, only remembered when I looked over another monk...
Beggars also drop long staff (but you might as well buy it and elder staff is better).
Have a look at the wiki, wont hurt, theres a rough guide guide there. It is WIP though.

Thanks for the advice. I think it might be because I am Halfling. My Str is to be desired lol. I will be farming those items. Thanks.

Fair warning to you, they are a low drop rate... And yeh, lings are not known for their physical might

If you do not know where the spawn spots are page me in game, I will show you (likely be on Nonchalant or Daedroth). Or give me your alts name I will keep an eye out for you.
Gl!

Monks do hit for lower damage than other classes. I assume you did 18 str? They can be competitive, you won't hit like an orc but it can work.
Make sure you're using 2 weapons as well. It gives you an extra stamina here. Also the "1 damage" when you look over an item doesn't translate to actually doing 1 more damage - there's a multiplier on weapons and such so 1 extra "power" is always worth it.

@TheFirstTrupain - I would just buy a couple of long staves (if your not close to 15th yet), they dont cost too much and it will speed your levelling
You probably have a thick staff from Seamore quests (r-click and examine it, if its less than 8 AD bare) then replace it with a long staff (from Canopia).
Once your 15th level, buy a bronze staff from Turenyara. The mithril staff from Drevlar at 20th.
If you rely on drops you could be waiting for a long time - may not be productive and worth the effort.
The ivory chucks are in between bronze staff and mithril staff.
Bone staves also drop in the Grave Yard, the Risen is what I think you need to kill (just outside of wiken). They are the best you can get until 25th. Yet again though, low drop rate.
Choice is yours though.

Re: Physical damage (Monk)
Thanks for the replies everyone. I got a couple Wicked Staves from Nez but had rerolled to HO. While they do hit a bit harder, they tend to miss a bit more. I don't know that the 6-7 STR is worth the amount of times he misses, however that could be because I was level 8 and trying to kill things north of Bityrin. I will keep at it though.

Nice work then
Out of all the times ive killed that guy ive only saw two staff drops, so damn you lucky.

I think I killed him like 12 times yesterday.

Separately from equipment - group exp is much more beneficial here than in old ROK.
