Fishing

Fishing is one of four different gathering professions a player can have. Players can learn this profession by traveling to Alderra and speaking with Jed Baconist. After completing his quest, you'll need to purchase a fishing rod from the Tools of the Trade store next to Jed. Equip it and your all set to begin fishing!

To fish:

  • The player must be on a water tile, notated as blue on your mini-map, of their appropriate level. Once on the tile, type /fish.

Note: While in fishing mode, you cannot move. It is recommended to pick a tile without any monster spawns on it.

  • Once in fishing mode, the player will /cast their line out.
  • A bobber will appear. Text will scroll on the screen. The text will tell you the appropriate action to take. e.g. reel, pull back, pull left, or pull right.

Warning: If you press the incorrect action 3 times your line snaps - you gain 0 experience, and it counts towards your Profession actions for the day.

  • Players have an extremely small window of time to enter the correct text action. If you do not, it counts towards an incorrect action.

Note: A tacklebox and worms provide a slight buff to the amount of time you have to enter the action. If you follow the recommended tips below and practice some, you shouldn't need the bonuses items.

  • If you successfully press the sequence of actions as they appear on the screen, you'll be rewarded! (Though sometimes with junk...)

Fishing Tips

Fishing can be a bit tricky to master at first and feel a bit complex. Once you understand the mechanics it's one of the easiest professions. Here are some tips:

  • Setup your macros F8 - F12 as: /cast, /reel, /pull, /pull left, /pull right.
  • Press F8 to cast your lure. Watch for the text on screen to tell you what action to press. Keep four fingers sequentially on F9-F12.

Note: Find what feels natural. Pinky on F9 or pointer finger on F9.

  • With fingers in position, naturally press the corresponding action. Repeat until you've caught your fish.

Warning: Do not try to type each action in. It is extremely unlikely you'll be able to type the action before it fails.

It'll take quite a few casts to become comfortable and proficient. Once your muscle memory kicks in with where each action resides on your macros, it will be simple.
